Bicycle Film Fest and UCSD Bike Commuter Appreciation

Check out our first ever Bicycle Film Night this coming Wednesday, May 18th at Porter’s Pub. UCSD Bike Shop is presenting several bicycle films to encourage people to ride to campus. It’s a free event and there will be lots of raffle prizes.  Stop by the Bike Shop between 7:00 and 9:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts and pick up an extra raffle ticket. It’s a small token of our appreciation to all the bicycle commuters that help make UCSD one of the nicest campuses to ride and one of the greenest universities in the nation.

Bicycle Enforcement Day

We just wanted to let everyone know that today is Bicycle Enforcement Day in and around UCSD. Be aware that they are cracking down on all stop signs and on library walk.

Recycle Your Old Skateboard Wheels

The UCSD Skateshop can now take all your old skateboard wheels. Drop them off at the shop and we’ll recycle them for you.

Pee Wee’s Last Day

Sure, they will send you the DVD in the mail but who has time to wait for that!  Sometimes you just need a little Pee Wee! Get it while you can!

Twenty Eleven

How quickly time flies. We are already two weeks into winter quarter. Thanks to everybody for making 2010 an amazing year for the UCSD Bike Shop.

Most spectacularly, we switched locations with General Store. In typical Bike Shop fashion, we moved in a day with very little warning. Fortunately the space is nearly twice the size so it made the move a little easier than last time. An extra special thank you to all the volunteers that helped with that, especially to the cycling and triathlon team members who put in a long and difficult day.

Every year we also lose staff to graduation. This year some special students and long time staff moved into the alumni division of Bike Shop employees. Erik, Ian and Tyler will be missed.

With that, 2011 is shaping up to be another exciting year. Stop by and give us some input as we look to move forward with the renovation of the new space. Don’t forget to renew your bike registration if you need it, and make sure to give your bike some love, especially with all the weather we have had.

Bike To Work Day on NPR

Bike to Work Day is Coming!

This Friday, May 21 is Bike to Work Day.  If you are not accustomed to riding your bike, this is a great day to give it a try.  There are places to stop all over town where you can pick up snacks, win prizes and get lots of friendly encouragement.  We will be out with the people at UCSD’s Commute Solutions providing technical support for all the cyclists that ride in to work.  If you need a little chain lube or some air in your tires, just stop by.  For a complete list of BTWD2010 pit stops check out the new icommutesd web site.  This is the link to the pit stops: http://www.icommutesd.com/Promotions/documents/PitStopList040510.pdf.  The UCSD pit stop is located at the corner of Villa La Jolla Drive and Gilman Drive next to the giant parking structure.  Get out there and have a great ride to work!

Grove Run

UCSD Triathlon Team is hosting the 2nd Grove Run 5K this Saturday, May 22.  The race is a great event, not only for the race, but is also one of few Certified Sustainable events in the country.  The team will be featured on Fox 5 News in the Morning on Tuesday, 5/18, to talk about the race.  UCSD Bike Shop will be donating a bicycle to be awarded to the greenest athlete at the race.  See the Grove Run website for details.
